Adelaide BIG DAY OUT
Post Event Summary
The sun was shining, and the weather splendid: 35,000 music lovers made their way to Adelaide Showground today, for summer’s premier music festival: the ADELAIDE BIG DAY OUT. Today’s show – number six for BDO 2010 – saw over 60 artists from Australia and beyond hitting the stage for killer live sets. Selling out in just nine days (a record for Adelaide), today’s event will be followed by the final stop on the BDO journey: Perth, on Sunday 31st January. Led by frontman Matt Bellamy, Devon trio MUSE headlined the Blue Stage, thrilling fans with a spectacular show that proved just why they’re touted as one of the best live acts in the world. Fellow countryman DIZZEE RASCAL had fans chanting before he even took to the stage, while pop star LILY ALLEN delivered a fun-tastic set including a cover of Britney Spears’ “Womanizer”. There were plenty of other international highlights too, including rockin’ sets by: KASABIAN, FEAR FACTORY, THE MARS VOLTA, MASTODON, PASSION PIT and PEACHES. Meanwhile, the Boiler Room’s dancefloor exploded with tunes from CALVIN HARRIS, GIRL TALK, SASHA, SIMIAN MOBILE DISCO and GROOVE ARMADA who kept everyone dancing until the end of the evening. Adelaide punters had just as much love for Aussie artists, who gave international visitors a run for their money up onstage. Brisbane five-piece POWDERFINGER brought down the arena with favourite singalongs like “My Happiness” and “These Days”, while sets by BLUEJUICE, JET, TAME IMPALA, THE TEMPER TRAP, KARNIVOOL, MAGIC DIRT and hometown heroes HILLTOP HOODS did more than impress. Peter Jackson, St John Ambulance Major Events State Manager said, “The cooler temperatures contributed to the crowd’s good behaviour and we are happy with how the day unfolded.”
From Adelaide, the BIG DAY OUT makes one more stop, wrapping up the tour in Perth. The line-up features some of the biggest names in the music world, including MUSE, LILY ALLEN, DIZZEE RASCAL, PEACHES, KASABIAN, GROOVE ARMADA and many, many more.
