Stradbroke Island, A Short Trip from Brisbane
Stradbroke Island, a short distance from Brisbane, will offer a great day full of adventures. The island, also known as Straddie, offers white sandy beaches along with some fantastic fishing. For those with four-wheel drive there are a number of activities to enjoy. If you like to scuba dive, or enjoy some other aquatic activities you will find they are all available in this little island of paradise.

Straddie is the second largest island in the world. It has been noted as one of the world's most ecologically important wetlands. It offers several freshwater lakes along with waterways and lagoons. It offers subtropical weather. Sunshine is known almost throughout the year. Many of the visitors are delighted that the island maintains the natural environment and has not been taken over by tourists. Visitors find the locals to be helpful and friendly.
There is so much to do on this island aside from fishing and snorkeling. Swimming, sailing, kayaking, surfing are all popular in Straddie. If you want to be a little further away from the water you can enjoy a round of golf or join some friends for lawn bowling. If you enjoy walking you will find beautiful lakes and lagoons. This is also a paradise for those who enjoy bird-watching. If you enjoy watching activity be sure to take along your binoculars. You might be lucky enough to see a manta ray, turtles, whales, or dolphins.
If you plan to visit Stradbroke Island be sure to take your sunscreen. Being so close to the water you can easily burn in a short amount of time. It is also important to wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes. If you plan to swim do not forget your swim gear. You might also want to take sunglasses, a hat, towel, a water bottle, and camera. Although you can purchase food on the island, a sack lunch for a picnic makes for a great day.
If you want to visit the island you can catch a ferry at Toondah Harbour. If you plan to stay for a few days, or more, there is camping available on the beaches (with a permit obtained from Stradbroke Visitor's Centre). There is also a wide range of accomodations to meet anyone's needs. Accomodations range from basic to luxury. Whatever you do you will have a great visit and Stradbroke Island will leave you with many pleasant memories.
