Queensland Holidays: Bribie Island

Bribie Island is a large sand island located in the northern section of Moreton Bay in Queensland, Australia. It is the only island connected to the Queensland mainland by a bridge completed in 1963. Bribie Island offers a magical experience for the avid adventurer or tranquility and solace for the weary traveler wishing to escape the fast paced trappings of the modern world.

Most of Bribie Island is uninhabited, with the southern end being more urbanized. The national park covers most of the uninhabited areas and it also encompasses some of the more public areas. Bribie IslandIf you are a nature lover, the park is a superb destination to tour on the island. Camping is available with a nightly fee per person. There are also picnicking areas and bush walks to tour the terrain. A vehicle service permit is needed to drive in the national park. All vehicles must be road registered four wheel drives.

Perhaps you would enjoy lounging on the long, sandy beaches that Bribie Island has become known for. Maybe you would enjoy participating in one of the many water sports available from sailing to snorkeling. The beach at Woorim is the only beach that has asurf which is accessible for all adventurers. There is a surf bar, surf patrol, restaurant, bar and a variety of cafes and shopping destinations to experience while at Woorim Beach.

Bribie Island The sights and sounds of city life will be forgotten once you feast your eyes upon the Glasshouse Mountains. These mountains were named by Captain James Cook in 1770 and are actually hills that rise abruptly from the coastal plain. They were formed as molten lava cooled approximately 26-27 million years ago.
Another breathtaking sight at Bribie Island is the Pumicestone Passage that is a narrow waterway separating Bribie Island and Queensland. It was named for the abundance of pumice stones lining its shoreline. Dolphins, turtles and 350 species of birds call this passage home.

The accommodations on this island include numerous hotels, holiday houses and apartments available to rent for the duration of your stay. They include varied price points and tremendous amenities to make your stay memorable and comfortable.

Bribie is a fascinating island destination. You will be sure to find the modern conveniences of a home away from home and also the excitement and adventure that you crave while on holiday. The sights and smells of its captivating sunsets and lush flora will linger with you long after the holiday is over.
